Track Circuit:Promoting Safety on Indian Railways

The track circuit is an essential component of railway signaling which plays a crucial role in ensuring safe train operations.

A track circuit is an electrical circuit where the running rails of a railway track form a part. Its primary purpose is to detect the presence of trains and control signaling and block equipment. At one end of the track circuit is a power source (battery) sends an electric current through the rails. At the other end it a relay monitors this current.

When a train occupies the track, the circuit is shunted, causing a change in current flow. The relay detects this change, indicating the presence of a train. Track circuits prevent collisions by ensuring no two trains occupy the same section. They are simple to maintain and vital for safe railway travel.

In summary, track circuits silently safeguard our journeys by allowing trains to move seamlessly across the vast Indian Railways network.
