Brindavan Express: Pioneering the Rails

The Brindavan Express, introduced in 1964, marked Southern Railways’ first intercity express. Initially covering 360 kilometers (220 miles) in just 5 hours, it connected MGR Chennai Central to Katpadi Junction and Jolarpettai Junction. Over time, additional stops extended the journey to 6 hours.

In the 1980s, it briefly operated as a double-decker before returning to single-deck configuration. Today, this Superfast express continues its legacy, bridging Chennai and Bengaluru, celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2014.
