If you have ever travelled by train in India, you might have noticed a number plate on the overhead equipment (OHE) pole along the track.
But do you know what it means?
The number plate is a way of identifying the location and structure of the OHE pole. It consists of four parts: the kilometer, the section, the mast, and the span.
The kilometer indicates the distance from the origin station. The section shows the type of OHE structure, such as portal, cantilever, or bracket. The mast is the serial number of the pole in the section. The span is the distance between two adjacent poles. By reading the number plate, you can know where you are and how the OHE is designed.
