Guwahati Railway Station holds the distinction of being India’s first fully solar-powered railway station. Commissioned in April 2017, this green initiative features 2352 grid interactive solar panels on its roofs, generating 700 kWp of power.
Since then, it has produced 7,96,669 kWh of electricity, reducing 6.3 lakh kg of carbon dioxide emissions. With an expected electrical savings of INR 67 lakhs, Guwahati sets an inspiring example for sustainable rail infrastructure in the country.
