In the early hours of August 17, 2024, the Sabarmati Express, operating between Varanasi Junction and Ahmedabad, faced a derailment near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Approximately 20 coaches derailed between Kanpur and Bhimsen station, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The incident occurred after the train had just departed Kanpur, and emergency teams swiftly evacuated all passengers. The derailment was attributed to a boulder impact on the engine’s front portion, causing significant damage. Indian Railways is actively investigating the cause of this incident.
