In the annals of Indian Railways, the Howrah Rajdhani Express holds a place of honor as India’s first Rajdhani train. Flagged off on March 1, 1969, it embarked on its maiden voyage from New Delhi to Howrah, covering 1,450 km in a swift 17 hours and 20 minutes.
This bi-weekly marvel was the sole Rajdhani until 1972, symbolizing speed and luxury on Indian tracks. It marked a new era in rail travel, reducing travel time significantly and setting a benchmark for subsequent premium trains in India.
