The Vigilance Control Device (VCD) ensures the alertness of train drivers. Installed in three-phase drive locomotives, it monitors their activity. If the driver fails to perform regular tasks (such as accelerating or braking) within a specified time, the VCD activates. First, it flashes an indication; then, if unacknowledged, it triggers an audio warning.
If still unacknowledged, emergency brakes engage. This safety measure prevents accidents due to driver fatigue. The VCD is a crucial component, keeping passengers safe on their rail journeys
