Why Indian Railways don’t use Diesel Locomotives for Push Pull Method ?

As we Know Diesel Locomotives play an Important role in Indian Railways from Carrying Goods train to Passenger Trains. So today in this post we will discuss about that why Indian Railways don’t use Diesel Locomotive for Push Pull method of trains.

Before Knowing the answer to this question we need to know that what is Push Pull technology that is being used in Indian Railways. As the Name denotes Push Pull that is Push method and Pull method means to Pull the trains from the front and Push the train from the back.If these two methods are done on the same time so we will call this as Push Pull teachnology.

In this technology the Locomotive is attached to the front of the coaches and another Locomotive is attached at the back of the Coaches. This process is as the Banker Locomotive.By this Banker Locomotive technique for some time it can be used but for continuous process this is dangerous because the the Locomotive attached at the back of the train does not proper instructions to control the train like when to accelerate and when to brake etc so these all procedure is done by walky talky which is not a good decision that is why things change and modifications are done in the Locomotives.

Modification was done were the front and the back locomotives were connected wirelessly through DPWCS technique. But this technique also doesn’t work in the Indian Railways because when the train was passing through the tunnel then this technique doesn’t work. This process only worked for Goods train and Indian Railways didn’t use this technique for the passenger trains.

After this Indian Railways RDSO department brought PUSH PULL technique which was first used in Central Railways Rajdhani train. In this train same group of Locomotives were used on the front and back also set up twenty four pin communication cable between the Locomotives. With this both Locomotive were ready for multiple operations like we see on the Locomotives which are attached with one another and only one Locomotive controls the other Locomotive. This same technique is ised for communication in Push Pull technique that is used in trains were requirement of Locopilot is no more in another Locomotive.

Now lets come to the question that why Diesel Locomotive is not used in Indian Railways because these Locomotives will consule more Diesel when in use but they can be used for Push Pull Technique in the same manner as Electric Locomotives can be used using Communication Cable.
